A Little About STAR Community UMC

Our journey began with the merger of St. Timothy and Allgood Road United Methodist Churches in July 2022. We began as 5365 Memorial Drive. STAR Community is the name that was chosen by those in the congregation that attended the Vision Sessions during November and December of 2022. It is both an acronym (S.T.A.R) honoring the combining of two churches St. Timothy and Allgood Road UMCs, with the added look toward our future with the symbol of the STAR that guided both common folks and kings

(wisemen) to Christ.


Still today we follow the STAR as God pursues us, redeems us, sustains us, guides us, and helps us share that Light so that others can be led to God through Christ.


We welcome you to visit us for an event or a worship service anytime! We look forward to sharing our collective work of ministry together in our local community around the corner, in the city, the nation and around the World! We pray that as we share in worship in Spirit and in Truth this morning, you feel the Presence of the Lord and leave Encouraged by God’s Spoken Word.

Rev. Dawn Wright

Lead Pastor

Our lead pastor is Rev. Dawn Wright. Her passion is helping all people experience God through different lenses because she believes there are no boundaries in experiencing God. Dawn served at Impact Church as Chief Operating Pastor, and she is a Level 2 in Pastoral Care and Counseling. Reverend Dawn accepted a call to ministry in 2002 and is an Itinerant Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church.


Rev. Dawn holds a Master in Human Resource Management from Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas and a Master of Divinity from Turner Seminary at the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, GA. She has a BA in Business Administration in Strategic Management from

the University of North Texas, Denton, Texas.


Our Belief

We believe in one God who is infinite in power, wisdom and love. God is a spirit (John 4:24) and God is love. “If we love one another, God lives in us” (1 John 4:12). We trust in God as the creator, ruler and sustainer of all things.

We believe in Jesus Christ, the Messiah, Deliverer and Savior of the world. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born into humankind as a ransom sacrifice for our sins. He was fully human and fully divine. He was crucified, died and was buried. He rose from the dead and now lives with God the Father as our great intercessor. He will come again as our high ruling king and judge of all the earth.

We believe in the Holy Spirit as our comforter, guide and strength in life. His presence is evidenced in our lives as love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, meekness and temperance. (Galatians 5:22-23). The Holy Spirit also helps us in our weakness (Romans 8:26) and affirms the truth of Jesus Christ in our lives.

United Methodists share with other Christians the conviction that Scripture is the primary source and criterion for Christian doctrine. Through Scripture the living Christ meets us in the experience of redeeming grace. We are convinced that Jesus Christ is the living Word of God in our midst whom we trust in life and death. The biblical authors, illumined by the Holy Spirit, bear witness that in Christ the world is reconciled to God. The Bible bears authentic testimony to God’s self-disclosure in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ as well as in God’s work of creation, in the pilgrimage of Israel, and in the Holy Spirit’s ongoing activity in human history.

As we open our minds and hearts to the Word of God through the words of human beings inspired by the Holy Spirit, faith is born and nourished, our understanding is deepened, and the possibilities for transforming the world become apparent to us.

Salvation is the first step in giving over the reins of our lives to the only one who knows the “way” – and this one is Jesus Christ. It all begins with Jesus Christ! If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,‘ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9).

Each Sunday we extend the opportunity for anyone to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Receiving salvation does not require that we be perfect, else, none of us would be eligible. Through his death on the cross and defeating death by rising again, we are offered the opportunity for a resurrected life – no matter what we’ve done or have been through.

If you have already been baptized, your baptism is honored by us. If you have not been baptized and desire to do so, we offer (3) modes of baptism: Sprinkling, Pouring, and Immersion.
